October VDOE Updates

  1. At the Board of Education meeting on September 28, 217, the Board accepted the Proposed 2017 English Curriculum Framework for First Review.  Supt’s Memo #289-17 announces the public comment period on the Proposed English Curriculum Framework is open from September 29-October 27.  Comments may be sent to EnglishCF2017@doe.virginia.gov .  Please keep in mind that all public comments are considered to be part of the review process and are provided for the Board of Education’s review.  Final review of the 2017 English Curriculum Framework is scheduled for the November 16 Board of Education meeting.
  2. The Crosswalk between the English 2010 and 2017 Standards has been posted.
  3. Supt’s Memo 288-17 announces that the ACT Reading for Information substitute test has been replaced by  Workplace Documents.  This test is merely a replacement, and the same scores for pass and pass advanced remain.  Additional information can be found on the Substitute Tests for Verified Credit list.  Please check the ACT website for the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) requirements  to confirm which version of the assessments will count toward the NCRC credential.  Additionally, as I had previously announced, ACT will not retire the WorkKeys Business Writing assessment.
  4. A reminder that October 20 is the National Day of Writing.  I urge you to find a way to have your teachers and students participate.  Writing is a life-skill and should cross all curricular areas!
